Alex Bierk is a Canadian artist known for work that explores the intersection of memory, history, and place. Bierk draws inspiration from personal photography and the photorealistic painting tradition to create candid and authentic expressions of emotional and lived experiences. His paintings often weave personal narratives with broader economic and social contexts, offering a rich exploration of the human condition.

Bierk’s work has been featured in both solo and group exhibitions internationally. Notable recent exhibitions include “I am here” at The Art Gallery of Ontario in 2022 and “36 Painters” at Harper’s in New York in 2021. He has exhibited at international art fairs such as Untitled (New York and Miami), Art Toronto, Papier/ Plural (Montreal), and Art Southampton. His work is included  in the collections of esteemed institutions like the Royal Bank of Canada, TD Bank, CIBC Bank, and the Art Gallery of Peterborough, as well as numerous private collections.

Bierk’s artistic prowess has earned him recognition as a finalist for the Kingston Prize, a national biannual portrait competition in Canada. He has also been awarded grants from the Toronto and Ontario Arts Councils, as well as the Canada Council for the Arts. Bierk’s exhibitions have garnered attention in prominent publications, including The Toronto Star and Canadian Art Magazine. Currently based in Peterborough, Ontario, Alex Bierk continues to create evocative and thought-provoking works that resonate with audiences worldwide.
