Caroline Larsen’s paintings immerse viewers in a jubilant tropical frenzy, drawing inspiration from her upbringing in Florida, her time spent in Panama, and her profound affinity for textiles. This fusion of personal recollections and a deep love for textile art has greatly shaped Larsen’s artistic aesthetic. Initially resembling woven fabrics, Larsen’s paintings reveal as elaborate oil paintings upon closer examination. Intricate lines and layers intertwine, creating lushly textured networks that give rise to a captivating array of material densities. Her artistic practice delves deeply into pattern, decoration, and the ornamental, while showcasing a keen sensitivity to the expressive potential of color.

Larsen studied at University of Waterloo, the University of Auckland in New Zealand and later earned her MFA with distinction from Pratt Institute in New York. In 2015 she was recognized as a finalist in the esteemed RBC Painting Competition.

Caroline Larsen has exhibited her paintings worldwide at galleries such as Wave Hill Public Gardens, The Hole (New York), Boiler Room: Pierogi Gallery, Craig Krull Gallery, General Hardware Contemporary (Toronto), Mindy Soloman (Miami), Gordon Gallery 2 (Tel Aviv), 68 Projects (Berlin), and Dio Horia (Greece). Her paintings have been reviewed in the New York Times, Whitewall Magazine, Canadian Art Magazine and Juxtapoz Magazine. Larsen’s work was included in the traveling exhibition “The Beyond: Georgia O’Keeffe and Contemporary Artists” at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, North Carolina Museum of Art and the New Britain Museum of American Art.
